Better Skype Embedding

These days embedding a Skype button on sites has become very
popular, although there are lot of ways and methods, but I found out a
better way to embed them and tweaked the code a little bit so that it
will be more compatible (would love to hear your feedback).

First of all you can choose which button you want to put up in your site by going here, and if you want to create a custom button you can create it by using the Skype wizard found here.

The Skype Chat Request (first section is for the status
image next is for the text link you can use both or only one, according
to your preference)

<a href="skype:username?chat” title=”Send instant message” type=”application/x-skype”><img src=”http://mystatus.skype.com/smallicon/username” alt=”Skype connection status” title=”Skype status” style=”border:none;width:16px;height:16px;” /></a>

<a href="skype:username?chat” title=”Send instant message” type=”application/x-skype”><strong>Chat</strong></a>

Skype View Profile Text Link, but you can use a button if you like (Lets users view your Skype profile)

<a href="skype:username?userinfo” title=”View Skype profile” type=”application/x-skype”>Profile</a>

Skype Add to Contact Text Link, but you can use a button if you like (Lets users add you to their contact list)

<a href="skype:username?add” title=”Add to Skype’s contact list” type=”application/x-skype”>Add</a>

Skype Call Link / Button (Lets users call you)

<a href="skype:username?call”>Click</a> (make a call to username)

Skype Voicemail Link (Lets users leave a voice mail to you – paid service)

<a href="skype:username?voicemail” title=”Leave a voicemail” type=”application/x-skype”>Leave voicemail</a>

Skype Out Link (If you want users to call a phone number directly, lets them call you from skype – paid service)
<a href="skype:+14…?call" title="Call this number" type="application/x-skype">SkypeOut</a>

Skype Detection

If your users do not use Skype you can also invite them to get it by
embedding a JavaScript on the header of your site or blog and then
calling it in a onclick event on the button/link you are using.

Put this script in your header

<script type="text/javascript" src="http://download.skype.com/share/skypebuttons/js/skypeCheck.js"></script&gt;

Call it Like this:

<a href="skype:username?call” onclick=”return skypeCheck();”>Click</a>

Note: replace username with your Skype username

That’s it go and enjoy your Skype.
